Weekly Diary Entries

Week Twenty-One
In this week I have completed all of my evaluation questions and posted them, I was able to think about the processes I have been through and the things I have considered whilst making my final products. I also decided to present them all in a different way as I felt that this would emphasise the points that I am making better therefore for question 1 I made a video with my voice over, then for question 2 I made a Prezi and lastly question 4 was presented as a Scribd document.
Week Twenty
This week as I have completed all of my media tasks I started to write my evaluation answers. I have completed my answer to Question for which is 'How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?'. Then after writing this I made it into an Issuu file, so I could present it with images of the examples that I gave. Subsequently I began thinking about and writing my answers to the next three questions.
Week Nineteen
After finishing all of my products I went on to ask for some audience feedback, I recorded two of my audience members speaking about their thoughts on the final products, I then made this into a video in order for me to watch it back and understand the examples they gave. Next week I believe I will start to evaluate my completed work.
Week Eighteen
This week I started to edit my video together in Premiere, I found this easier than after effects as I have used Premiere before however the tasks that I needed to complete on premiere I found time consuming such as trying to find the correct shots to use and to get it to match up correctly was difficult at times but did not affect the final outcome of the video. Then nearing the end of the week I was able to finish my music video.
Week Seventeen
This  week I have been editing my footage and to do so I have used Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere, I have been using After Effects to create the rain effect, turn the footage into black and white and to also manipulate the time of it all. I found it quite simple to do but I had to use Tutorials to teach me how to do this as this was the first time that I have used After Effects. Next week I am hoping that with this edited footage I will be able to start to put my video together.
Week Sixteen

This week I am scheduled to film on the 15th, but before I did this I need to prepare my storyboard therefore I drew out the key shots that I wish to capture in my video and then take note of what will happen in these shots and also how long they should last for. After creating the storyboard I made an animatic this showed the images used in my storyboard put in a video the song ' Feeling Good'. This has helped me to visualise better what the video will look like. Then on the 15th I shot my video, I had help from four others, I took pictures of the day. But some key things that I had to have in preparation for the day was to get the actor release form allowing me to use any of the footage and images gathered on that day and also the risk assessment form in order to understand and avoid any possibly health and safety issues that I could face.
Week Fifteen

This week in preparation for filming my music video I started planning for what props I would need also what I wanted my model to wear. I have planned for my model to wear a black top, black leggings and black heels, this is in order to add to the simplistic nature of the video. I also had to plan for what props I would need so I can make sure that I had them ready. Also this week I looked at the Equipment that I was going to use I found out that the best camera for filming was the Canon XM2 Camcorder, and that I would use the Canon 550D to take photos. Furthermore towards the end of the week I emailed the band Muse in order for allowed use of their song 'Feeling Good' unfortunately I did not receive an email back, but I will still use it. I then went on to analysing the lyrics to the song to understand them better. I also found that I felt the concept of my video portrayed these lyrics well. Next week I am planning on filming my video and I have found this planning and research useful.

Week Fourteen
After creating my digipak final draft I moved on to creating my magazine advert draft, similar to the digipak draft I used PowerPoint to portray my ideas better. In this case I took the image for my digipak front cover draft and used this as the main image, I then added in text around it such as the album information, to act as a guidance of what to include in my final magazine advert. I then progressed to creating this on the computer by using Photoshop.  Also similar to my digipak the draft that I made I asked for audience feedback on and after listening to their comments I believe that I will remove of the Twitter and Facebook Logos. I did this and then filled that space with the record labels logo, I felt that this corresponded with the black and white, symmetrical theme that I have used.

Week Thirteen
This week I started to create my digipak, the first thing I did was I made 5 different versions of the front cover, then as I was unsure of which one to use I asked my audience, they gave me feedback and I listened. After using their advice I created the first final draft of my digipak, I made a front, back and two inside sections, however after more feedback I believe that I may change one of the inside pages.

Week Twelve
After I made my mood board I started to come up with ideas of what my digipak might look like. I drew out ideas for the front and back and the two inside pages. I kept the album name the same as the original as the title was the digipak main inspiration. As it is called 'Origins of Symmetry' I wanted to make the images symmetrical. To make the draft I drew the initial image then used PowerPoint to add in text and to make it symmetrical. I will use this as my main guide when making my digipak and taking photos for it. Then also towards the end of the week I did my photo shoot, it was small and quick as I knew what images I wanted after making the draft first. Next week I hope to start  editing these pictures and see my digipak start to come together.
Week Eleven

Before creating drafts for my final products I wanted to look at previous students work to get an understanding of what I can make and what the standard is. So I looked at their Music video and analysed this, and I evaluated their digipak and adverts. This helped me to understand what I should try and achieve. Then I started to make my mood board, to do this I looked at music videos and some adverts as well as taking key inspirational images. The things that I collected all relate back to water, this is because some of my key ideas involve the use of water. This board will be useful when coming up with my music video idea and digipak.

Week Ten

This week I looked into two magazine adverts for albums. The album adverts I looked at belonged to Florence and the Machine and Kings of Leon. I learnt about the most common things featured on an album advert which were things like featuring the release date as well as both of the adverts used the album artwork as the main image. Looking at these things has helped me make some decisions such as I believe that I will use the album artwork on the advert. Also this week I researched into my audience, to do this I looked at their Psychographics and Demographics, then I created a mood board to represent the things that I found out. I think that by doing this it will help me to understand my audience better, therefore I can create a successful music video that appeals to them.

Week Nine

In this week I researched into two things. The first thing was the Codes and Conventions of music videos. By looking into this I have learnt about what codes and conventions includes such as genre, mise-en-scen and editing. Finding out about the things that are commonly used in music videos has helped me to think about the things I should use in order to include in my music video. As well as this Music and Music video theory helped me with this too. I looked into Andrew Goodwins theory and found out things that are almost always included in music videos in order to represent a particular genre.

Week Eight

This week I looked into two digipaks. Lianne La Havas' 'Is your love big enough?', was the first digipak I looked at and the second one was The Beatles 'The White Album' I looked at how this digipak was presented as well as what it included in it and how it stays true to the artists style. This made me start to think about what my digipak will look like and I have started to think of ideas and draw out sketches.

Week Seven

As last week I researched into Rock and Roll music I decided that this week I would research into the band that I have chosen, which is Muse. I found out how the band formed and developed over time from winning Battle of the Bands to developing their music style. As well as that their music falls into many rock sub genres such as electric and space music. I also looked at their influences and found that they were inspired by other artists such as Queen and Jimi Hendrix. I think that by finding out the background information about my band I have been able to understand them a lot better and perfect my idea for the music video. I think that after all of this research I have conducted over the past couple of weeks I have decided upon an idea. Additionally in this week I found out information about Digipaks, I looked at what they are and what they consist of. Next week I am hoping to have a look at some already existing digipaks in order for me to gain inspiration for when I am making an designing them.

Week Six

After this weeks research I have concluded that I want to do a rock song and I am thinking of using Muse's cover of 'Feeling Good'. At the beginning of the week I looked into the band The xx. I researched into about how the band formed and how they have progressed through doing collaborations and winning awards. The xx are generally an indie band, which I think is that audience that I will be aiming my video at. I looked into The xx's style and influences on their music. Furthermore in this week I looked at the influences on Rock Music. I found out information such as the influences society and fashion had on this genre. As Rock and Roll music was mainly emerging through the 1960's this is when society and fashion were changing. I found it interesting on how Rock music has been influenced throughout time.

Week Five

This week I have researched into Music channels. The channels that I have looked at are Kerrang!, MTV, VIVA and NME TV. These channels all vary in genre, therefore enabling me to see how different genres of music are presented to their audiences. MTV and VIVA both having a mainstream audience appeal to them by playing generally pop and chart music, as this is has a big audience and appeals to people on international levels. Both of these channels also play Reality TV shows not just music. Kerrang! and NME TV appeal to different audiences as Kerrang! focuses mainly on rock music where as NME TV used to play indie music. Both if these channels have magazines and they stay within the house style by using the same logos and appealing to the same audience by promoting music from the same genre as their magazines.

Week Four

As in week three I had gained some more ideas, I decided that this week I would look at some music videos and analyse them so I could gain inspiration from them. I have looked at a variety of music videos such as Niva - Boy from the sun being electric pop and Lady Gaga and will young being Pop. Also I created an inspirations page where I have gathered some videos that inspire me, this is to help me create a video that is good.

Week Three

This week I have looked into two areas, firstly I researched existing music labels including EMI and SME. By conducting this research I found it interesting to see how music labels operate with regards to the artists they have as well as how they promote artists. As well as I researched into the Director Francis Lawrence, and looked at some of his previous work and the artist that he has worked with. Also I carried on thinking about the idea that I had for the Muse song I have developed it however I have thought of other ideas so now I am going to start looking at other music videos and analyse them in order to gain further inspiration.

Week Two

This week I created my History of Music Videos Prezi. In this Prezi I researched into the History of music videos, I found out things such as where music videos originated from as well as how they have developed and changed over time. By finding these things out I feel that I understand the concept of music videos better and that I can now create a successful video as I understand it better now. Furthermore in this week I started coming with ideas, I came up with an idea for Muse's 'Feeling Good' however before creating story boards I would like to try and develop this idea more before starting to create it as I may change my mind.

Week One

This is the first week, so today I made a Start on may A2 Coursework. I have decided to create a music video, so before I started brainstorming ideas I created a resource Audit. This enabling me to look at all of the resources that I am able to use in my music video. This has helped me as I have been able to think of a couple of ideas about what I could include in my music video as well as possible locations.
